Gabriel Ekram Pagabe Ali, 47, is charged with violating the woman’s civil rights and assaulting her while she was working as a City Carrier Assistant for the U.S. Postal Service, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger and Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division announced.

The incident happened on Nov. 26, 2022, when Ali groped the victim’s breasts and buttocks without her consent, then forcibly pulled her into his office and a bathroom as she resisted.

Ali’s actions, authorities say, violated the victim’s right to safety and bodily integrity while she was performing her job.

If convicted, Ali faces up to three years in prison for violating the victim’s civil rights and up to eight years for the assault charge.

The case is being investigated by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General, led by Special Agent in Charge Matthew Modafferi. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joseph Gribko and Javon Henry, along with Justice Department Trial Attorneys Laura Gilson and Chloe Neely, are handling the prosecution.
